RAPE JOKES ARE HILARIOUS WHEN THEY ARE SUBTLE RIGHT? RIGHT GUYS?

no, they are funny when they are addressed at a guy.

SINCE WHEN WERE RAPE JOKES EVER FUCKING OKAY

I interpreted (and still do) the original text that was submitted to the Texts From Last Night website to be coming from a consensual BDSM relationship from one real life participant to another. TFLN is not exactly known for being politically correct or polite on the ears, but I specifically choose texts to don’t contain offensive language or humor.

Rape is not mentioned in the original text and was certainly not implied in my pairing of it with the given screencap (again, I assumed it was obviously BDSM). I’d thought of pairing the text with a Bolin and Eska cap long before Book 2 aired based on my predictions of how their relationship would be, though given the current nature of the show’s portrayal of Bolin and Eska’s relationship (which to be frank is not exactly what I expected or wanted) and the nature of this particular cap with Bolin in an inferior position and us, as viewers, knowing he would not consent in the canon, it obviously gave the wrong message.

I intend, as I always do, for these Texts From Republic City to work in a sort of crack-ish alternate universe where the relationships, especially the romantic (or in this case, faux romantic relationship, since I don’t think any viewer at this point still sees it as romantic) are both exaggerated and versatile for the sake of basing them on the texts I pair them with for the sole point of quick humor. They’re certainly never meant as a laugh at the more serious nature they may reference, in this case, sexual assault. I took the text to be of an implied consensual nature and certainly not something that was making light of rape, which I apparently didn’t make clear, likely based on my choice in screencap. It was my intent for viewers to see it as a quip regarding consensual BDSM based on a faux-relationship in this faux-canon Legend of Korra universe (that is, I wanted people to see it as something to snort at in a “It’d never happen, but in an AU Boleska relationship it may actually be plausible she’d say that and he’d agree” way, not in a “haha, she’s gonna rape him!” way), though obviously it fell flat.

But to clarify: It most definitely isn’t a rape joke, though I’m sorry for not picking a better cap to make sure that was clear.
